On the first day of spring break the kids found an injured baby bird. Three had been found the day before that had died. They were deeply saddened so when they found this one they begged me to help them save it. We picked it up and put it in a warm cloth. They named the bird Fly, with the hopes that he would someday be able to do that. Skylar held Fly for 20 minutes on her lap in a quiet dark room, and said a prayer, the other 2 kids ran around getting it food and water. We called the animal rescue and were lucky to get the name of a woman who lives in our town, who takes in injured and abandoned baby birds. We drove Fly to her house. We made Shawn be really quiet in the car so as to not startle Fly. He was an angel, whispering the entire time.
The woman's husband greeted us. She had been up all night feeding another baby bird. Talk about selfless service! Baby birds require feeding every 2 hours, around the clock, we found out. He told us that the first 24 hours were the most critical. The kids prayed and prayed that day.

The next day they called us and said Fly was doing well. He was starting to heal, eating great, and had more feathers than the day before. The lady had given him medicine for the injury. The kids were so happy. A few days later we went to visit Fly. It was amazing that he had grown so much. He was fine. His injury had healed. The kids loved helping feed him.
A few days later Skylar brought another injured baby bird home from school. They named him Chirpy. Chirpy is now doing well, living with Fly. The couple sends us emails with photos to update their progress. I love people like them...Jim and Ann, the bird guys.
