Our family life in the tropics. Lots of music, art, gardening, cooking, traveling, ponderings, and joy. Creating memories, traditions
and hopefully some humor. Trying to give back as well.

glimpses of my garden this year

There were some nice surprises. Our first longan and avocado harvest. Some taro, some mangos, and cherry tomatoes. Loads of bananas, tangerines. Papayas. And a canteloupe from compost I had buried. I built a new trellis from salvaged branches. And we discovered more about growing trees, including the value of eggshells for citrus and avocados.

a garden tour and lunch

Before our summer trip Gary surprised me with a fun afternoon activity. We drove way up the mountain and ended up on a beautiful organic farm property. We gathered with a group of people and toured the farm, seeing all sorts of food being grown including coffee, tropical fruits, all sorts of vegetables and herbs and macadamia nuts. We all picked from the garden to create a big salad. They had a smokehouse where they cooked the food, a chef with a great sense of humor, and enthusiastic young people working the land and serving us lunch. The food was so good, four courses in all!

garden update and some harvesting
